"Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose."
- Charles Eames
A Collection of work over the years
Throughout my career as a product designer, I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects and bring my designs to life. I have developed my skills in leadership, mentorship, user research, UX design, prototyping, and visual design, and have gained extensive experience working with cross-functional teams and communicating my design ideas effectively. I have seen the impact of my work firsthand as I have helped create products that meet users' needs and expectations. While I have faced challenges and setbacks along the way, I have also experienced the satisfaction of seeing my designs successfully implemented and making a positive impact in the world.
As a consultant, I have had the opportunity to design many websites throughout my career. I have developed a strong understanding of web design principles and have experience creating visually appealing and user-friendly websites that meet the needs of my clients. I have worked with a variety of clients, each with their own unique goals and challenges, and have developed the skills and expertise necessary to deliver high-quality solutions that meet their needs, as well as the needs of their clients and users.
Advertising, Logistics, and more
I spent 3 years with the start-up, MediaBank (MediaOcean) and 6 years with Echo Global Logistics in River North, Chicago, IL. These two companies were founded by Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell (most notably of Groupon). During my tenure with these serial entrepeneurs, I was asked to work on many special projects. Among them were Chicago Ideas, Spark Café, LightBank, and Tempus. I designed logos, wayfinding maps, interior signage, and other various graphics. I also designed the first iterations of the Groupon logo. My work can be seen on the 5th and 6th floors at 600 West Chicago.
I was given the opportunity to design a logo for an exciting, new organization that would host events and conferences in Chicago featuring notable speakers and leaders. The organization's main event is Chicago Ideas Week, which brings together more than 200 speakers and 30,000 attendees to discuss innovation and disruption. The logo would be redesigned annually to reflect current trends in innovation.
I was asked to provide some designs for new office spaces for Lightbank and Tempus. My work involved creating logos, wayfinding maps, and interior signage. For the logo designs, I focused on creating a unique and memorable visual identity that accurately reflects the brand and its values. When working on wayfinding maps, I prioritize clear and intuitive navigation, using elements such as color coding and clear labeling to guide users to their destination. For interior signage, my goal was to create design elements that are aesthetically pleasing and functional, helping to improve the user experience and create a cohesive visual identity.
they were very trendy back then
To help all those legacy .NET applications look a little more modern and current, we started designing colorful icons that didn't fit into the 16x16 pixel, 8-bit GIF format anymore. Increasing Internet speeds made it possible to create more detailed and higher resolution icons.
I was the only designer on a small team of just three developers that was put together to create the first hybrid web app for mobile devices (smartphone & tablet) for Echo Global Logistics. We built the app in HTML/Javascript and converted it to a hybrid app using Phonegap.
